Chairperson of Regional Women's Parliamentary Caucus(RWPC) and Member of Parliament of the Malawi National Assembly
Jessie Kabwila is a member of parliament of the Malawi National Assembly representing Salima North West, Education and Government Assurances Committees. Kabwila is chair of the Women’s Caucus, member of SADC Parliamentary Forum. She is Publicity Secretary for the main opposition party – Malawi Congress Party (MCP).
Jessie Kabwila is a lecturer by profession. She holds a Masters of Arts degree in Literature, and Ph.D. from Binghamton State University of New York. She has over 15 years of teaching experience in several countries including Malawi, Botswana, and Zimbabwe.
As a legislator and chair of women’s caucus, Kabwila played a crucial role in the passing of two very crucial gender laws: the Marriage Divorce and Family Relations Act (2015) and Trafficking in Persons Act (2015). She has extensive in experience in community work involving access to justice to poor people and women, especially on land, violence against women and labour issues. She has extensive experience in leadership and activism, service is an anchor of a political career she is passionate about.
